So while Anna has her dance routine down, and can perform while smiling (and not counting which is a huge deal) she feels she doesn't need to stretch out or warm up.... which to me is a big problem given my knees. Her teacher recommended that a positive way to show her its important is that there is a reality show about becoming a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader. I figured it was worth a shot (it was that or scare her with surgery stories). She thought it was fun and danced when they danced and stretched when they stretched... and now I'M the one hooked!!! In a way its almost self-abusive watching, but as someone who also instructed and wants to be a positive force for my daughter, its a great learning tool. Tonight, they did cut a girl who while she was "bigger" than the other girls (she had 23% body fat), she was crash dieting, and they commented they would rather she work with a trainer for the next year and just come back healthy, than risk hurting herself. To me, that is a great message.
And a little secret about me - I use to want to be a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader... I think I was 7 or 8 and my grandfather, knowing this, got me an official DCC jacket with my name embroidered on it :)
I went back and watched the first episode online :) I guess I now have another "must watch" :) If you are interested, it is on CMT on Sat night and repeats on Sunday!
